Keiichi Tanaami
Born in Tokyo in 1936. Graduated from Musashino Art University. Actively working across the boundaries of professions as an art director, graphic designer, illustrator, filmmaker and artist, he is highly regarded as a role model of the modern, versatile artist. Using the design methodology of "editing," he continues to create works that go beyond the framework of fine art, presenting a wide range of works including collages, prints, drawings, animations, experimental films, paintings, sculptures and installations. He is also widely recognized internationally as a pioneer in Japan in the ever-expanding context of "POP." Tanaami's major exhibitions in recent years include "PARAVENTI: KEIICHI TANAAMI" (2023, Prada Aoyama, Tokyo), "Manhattan Universe" (2022, Venus Over Manhattan, New York), "Mirror of the World" (2022, NANZUKA UNDERGROUND, Tokyo), "Keiichi Tanaami" (2019, Kunstmuseum Luzern, Lucerne, Switzerland), and "Keiichi Tanaami" (2019, Jeffrey Deitch, New York). Other group exhibitions include the major pop art retrospective "International Pop" (2015-2016, Walker Art Center, Dallas Muse of Art, Philadelphia Muse of Art, USA), and "The World Goes Pop" (2015, Tate Modern, London). His work is included in public collections, including MoMA (USA), Walker Art Center (USA), The Art Institute of Chicago (USA), M+ (Hong Kong), National Portrait Gallery (USA), and Hamburger Bahnhof (Germany), among others.
