"Calling BEAMS CRAFTS IN THE MAKING" is a project to connect craftsmanship to the future. An event was held at Wataya Villa in Saga Prefecture.

2024.08.05

A pop-up event for the project "Calling BEAMS CRAFTS IN THE MAKING," overseen by BEAMS creative director Sachiko Sato, will be held at Wataya Villa in Saga Prefecture. This time, Sato will also be designing one of the rooms at Wataya Villa, allowing you to experience "Calling BEAMS CRAFTS IN THE MAKING" indoors as well. Stays will be available for a limited time from Thursday, September 5th to Tuesday, October 15th.

This project aims to create new value through the filter of fashion and connect it to the future in order to protect the many cultures that are creating things that should be passed down to future generations. Three brands will be launched: CATHRI, which offers ageless and universal relaxing wear incorporating Kurume Kasuri, an Important Intangible Cultural Property; HIZEN jewelry, a jewelry collection that uses five ceramics representing Hizen, Saga Prefecture, as jewels; and HYOGO LEATHER, which incorporates leather produced by tanners in the Hyogo area into various items.

Don't miss this opportunity to see this collection, which incorporates the culture that has long been cultivated in Japan into fashion.

〈CATHRI〉

CATHRI is a brand that uses Kurume Kasuri, an Important Intangible Cultural Property, to create ageless and universal relaxing wear that cannot be categorized into any genre.

The brand, which launched in 2020, incorporates the art-like Kasuri created using various methods into designs from a fashion perspective, transforming them into one-of-a-kind products.

Also at the event, two special types of sake made alongside the Kurume Kasuri weavers used at CATHRI will be available for a limited time at Wataya Besso's Japanese restaurant, Rikyu.

〈HIZEN jewelry〉

〈HIZEN jewelry〉

HIZEN jewelry is a brand that reconstructs ceramics from Hizen, Saga Prefecture, as if they were jewels. The concept is to "wear pottery like wearing jewels."

HIZEN jewelry is a jewelry collection based on ceramics from five potteries representing the Hizen region. The ceramics, which have different characteristics depending on the production area, are expressed in a new category called jewelry.

Arita ware

Bunsyohgama
Since our founding in 1991, with the concept of eliminating tableware, we have utilized the techniques of making a wide variety of pottery that have been passed down in Arita, aiming to create interior goods and stationery that create new values while being close to daily life.

Imari ware

Hatamantouen
Founded in 1997, Hataman Toen was founded under the name Manyo Kiln by the first generation Mantaro Hataishi. Based in Okawachiyama, known as the ``Secret Kiln Village'', where the official kiln of the Nabeshima Marquis of the Hizen Saga Domain was once located, we continue to work as masters of traditional techniques.

Ureshino Yoshida ware

224porcelain
Ceramics made in Ureshino City, Saga Prefecture, which is famous as a teahouse and one of Japan's leading hot spring areas. "224" is a porcelain brand born in Hizen Yoshida, a small production area. Although we are based on our long history and the technology we have cultivated over that time, we continue to take on the challenge of creating new products without being bound by traditional values.

Takeo ware

Kouungama is a studio located in the mountains of Takeo City, Saga Prefecture, surrounded by mountains and fields, and surrounded by nature. Drawing on the traditions of Karatsu ware, the studio incorporates the characteristics of traditional and simple tableware called "Kokaratsu" and gorgeous tableware with overglaze and red painting, and is committed to creating "tableware that is close to nature and life" through handwork.
Japan has four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter, and we want to pass down the lifestyle, handiwork, and food culture that are appropriate to the local climate to the next generation of children through ``pots.''

Karatsu ware

Yoshihisa Ishii
Karatsu ware has been made for over 400 years. It was something that was cherished even as it changed and its interpretation changed with each era. We want you to experience the excitement of pottery by experiencing the texture and formative identity that can be obtained from natural objects.
