I’m quite the demanding type, so I love working with craf tsmen who likes challenges. This season, our theme was polka- dots. Not just dots but giant ones - weaved instead of printed. It’s a very tricky process, involving 300 punch cards to make 1cm dots, but this time we needed 1400 for 7cm dots. To top it of f, I asked that we intentionally position the dots slightly uneven. I had learned that although perfect symmetry is appealing to the human eye, it doesn’t leave a lasting impression. This added the number of punch cards and raised production costs… but don’t worry, We’ve kept it at an affordable price point. I think it’s worth it if it makes customers happy. The season’s title, “yin-yang ” was inspired by the fabric. In the textile industr y it’s called “day and night dots” because the pattern on one side is the perfect opposite of the other. The opposing texture also adds to the contrast. Like Front & b ack,day&night,life&death…Neither can exist without the other. This theme is incorporated in the design of the garment as well. The right side was inspired by 5-pocket jeans, the left, by iron trousers. Apologies to the retail staff though, because there is so much to explain!
