Nishibe Chemicals is a company based in Nara. They have been making PVC sandals, known as “bathroom sandals” or “bensan,” for over 40years. This pop, cheap and comfy model with tassels and quilting is from their premium line <BENCH> and was an insane success. We’re back again this season with new items! The white-natural combo and the ribbon types are both <BEAMS Planets> exclusives.

The limited items are a celebration of this new beginning. The loop-tie and earrings have the soft texture and shine unique to leather. “BEAMS JAPAN” is a curation store that collects and presents the best allures of Japan. Its first store in the Kansai area is opening inside the commercial complex “ShinPuhKan” in Karasuma Oike, Kyoto. From traditional to subculture, the store will feature Japanese things, ideas, and important artisans in history as well as limited items reflecting the historical traditions of Kyoto.

「今シーズンは、ホラー漫画界の巨匠、伊藤潤二先生とのコラボレーションが実現しました。以前から仲良くさせて頂いていて、『いつかコラボしたいですね』というお話しをしていたのがついにカタチに！伊藤先生の描く猫はペンのタッチが独特なんです。猫って、絵にするとデフォルメしがちなんですが、毛の一本一本が力強く描き込まれていて、フサフサ感がすごくリアル。毛並み、顔つき、表情など、一匹ずつそれぞれの特徴を捉えて描いてくださっていて、しかも、それが伊藤先生のタッチ。初めて見たとき、とてもワクワクしました。このグラスは私の愛猫たちに加えて、伊藤先生が飼われていた“よん”と“むー”のイラストがプリントされた２種類展開。日常使いできるので、ぜひペアグラスとして楽しんでいただけたら！伊藤先生とのコラボアイテムはほかに、浴衣やワンピース、シャツなども。可愛いとホラーが混じり合った世界観で展開しますので、期待してください！」(中川翔子）

“Enjoy The unique mix of cute and terror”

This season, we successfully achieved a collaboration with Junji Ito, the legendary artist in the horror manga world. We were already acquainted with him and had talked about doing a collaboration before. The cats that Junji draws have such a unique touch. Cats in arttend to be simplified, but he draws each piece of hair with a powerful stroke, making the overall texture more realistic. From the hairline to the facial expression, the portraits grasp the personal features of each individual cat. These glasses come in pairs, featuring illustrations of my adorable cats, as well as Junji’s cats “Yon” and “Mu”. Other collaboration items with Junji also include yukatas, dresses, and shirts. Trust me that they are an interesting mix of cuteness and terror.
