Architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s maxim “God is in the details”
resonates deeply with the work of BEAMS PLUS.
Drawing on the history of fashion, we create garments that
feel right for the present—and worthy of the future.
This is made possible by an almost obsessive devotion to detail.
Within the production floor of our long-time partner factory,
master artisans bring those details to life.
We would call this spirit “Threads of Authenticity.”
This season, it comes to life in our standout piece: the B.D.
Classic-fit Burnout Dot Candy Stripe. Here is a close look at how it is sewn.

Our story begins not with fabric development but with the sewing floor. Although BEAMS PLUS often designs original fabrics from scratch, this shirt uses a special heavy-oxford cloth, woven slowly from relatively thick yarn to preserve its natural loft. The result is a fabric softer than standard oxford yet resilient and full-bodied. Two layers are bonded, then treated so that a subtle dot pattern emerges on one side, giving a timeless stripe unexpected depth. Such technical material demands exceptional skill: matching the pocket pattern and adjusting machine settings require extraordinary care, making production far more complex. This factory has been crafting BEAMS PLUS shirts for over twenty years, finishing every garment with precision—true to the promise on our label: Quality Clothes.

Season after season, BEAMS PLUS offers bold patterned fabrics. Aligning those patterns during sewing requires meticulous attention. We sometimes offset motifs deliberately, but perfect pattern matching on pockets and plackets remains a hallmark of quality. From this season’s dotted stripes to hand-printed block motifs, intricate “crazy patterns,” and fabrics with contrasting faces, each project challenges even seasoned craftsmen. Yet the artisans who know our design philosophy inside and out maintain both pace and uncompromising standards, no matter how demanding the process.

The featured shirt is our signature B.D. Classic-Fit. Armholes are finished with a 1 cm flat-felled seam to allow full range of motion. Side and underarm seams use a 3 mm flat-felling that encloses raw edges for durability and a smooth feel against the skin. Every section follows precise stitch-width specifications. Our iconic “+” bartack on the gusset—an emblem of BEAMS PLUS—is applied using a dedicated machine.

Among the final touches, the buttons stand out. Each shirt is finished with natural white-shell buttons stamped with the inscription “BEAMS PLUS. Their placement balances classic styling with contemporary life. After the garment is complete, the buttons are attached using a shank wrap—a technique usually reserved for tailored jackets—adding strength and a subtle lift. While specialized machines assist the process, every button is hand-checked for quality.

BEAMS PLUS often speaks of being “updated for the present,” and our sewing reflects that ethos. We prize the thrill you feel when slipping on a well-made garment, yet behind that sensation lie countless, carefully executed details—many unseen, but never overlooked.
