Founded in 1886. Pantofola d'Oro's long history of 130 years began when it supplied spikes to the soccer team of Ascoli in central Italy, supporting the players' feet. In the 1950s, a player on a prestigious Italian soccer team praised the shoes by saying, ``These are not spikes, they are golden slippers (pantofora d'oro)!'' The brand name originates from this phrase.
