Agate Shop Kawashima

Founded in 1877 (Meiji 10), we are the oldest established shop in Sanin, dealing in Izumo agate, magatama, minerals, and more, located in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. Our original magatama are made using blue agate (hekiseki, Izumo stone), a specialty of Izumo that is now almost impossible to harvest, and are crafted with the help of artisans, paying close attention to details such as thickness, curves, and degree of bulge, while retaining the image of ancient shapes.
