Yanagiya is Japan's oldest cosmetics manufacturer that has been in business since 1615. It was founded in Nihonbashi from the end of the Sengoku period to the beginning of the Edo period by Lu Yiguan, who came from the Ming Dynasty to serve as Tokugawa Ieyasu's personal physician. It all began when red, which was used medically, was sold for cosmetic purposes. Based on the culture of Japanese hair, the brand was established in the late Edo period by devising the oil applied to the "mage" at the time.
