When Kinoya's predecessor, Ishinomaki Suisan, was founded in 1957, it began producing canned goods with the desire to deliver fresh whale meat, an essential part of the Japanese diet, and its signature product, Whale Yamatoni, was born. The company lost its company and factory in the Great East Japan Earthquake, but with the support of people from all over the country, it opened a new factory inland in 2013. It continues to produce delicious canned goods in Ishinomaki today.
