Nambu Sakiori Preservation Society

Nanbu Sakiori is a traditional craft from Aomori Prefecture that was born from the traditional handiwork of women, who used cotton kimonos, which were precious in the cold climate where cotton does not grow, until they could no longer be worn, and then tore them into thin strips and wove them into weft threads to regenerate them into thick cloth. The Nanbu Sakiori Preservation Society, founded in 1975, is committed to preserving and spreading the traditions of Nanbu Sakiori, aiming for more artistic upcycling while treasuring the creation of traditional works.
