The world's first triple collaboration connected by pride and respect

Barbour celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, loved by everyone from the British royal family to country gentlemen and up-and-coming musicians. On the other hand, Paraboot celebrated its 110th anniversary last year and was chosen by Parisians, Arctic explorers, and the French Navy. The world's first triple collaboration was created with International Gallery BEAMS acting as a bridge between prestigious British and French brands with such long and glorious histories. Although it is unexpected, it is by no means strange, it is a fresh and solid product. We will ask the three key people who led the project about their thoughts and behind-the-scenes stories about the production. (text_Naoyuki Ikura)

Not only are both popular brands, but we also feel a lot of sympathy.

``At International Gallery BEAMS, we focus on fashion and streetwear, picking up cutting-edge designers and seasonal items from Japan and abroad. On the other hand, we not only pick up on the latest trends, but also items that have become the cornerstone of wardrobes over time. We also have a wide selection of special items.Unlike our lineup, which changes every season, we have brands that we have been carrying for many years. In other words, we have put the spotlight on these, which are the core of the shop, and created fresh products that only we can offer. This project started with a proposal and a special attempt.

“That's when we decided on Barbour and Paraboot, which have been hugely popular for a long time and have established themselves as brands. It's true that the countries and products are different, but the worldview of the brand, the simple and sturdy products that men like, the craftsmanship stance that thoroughly pursues quality, and the stubborn and traditional, In fact, they have a high affinity for each other, as they also have the flexibility to accept new things."

In addition, I feel that the tastes of both fans are similar in that they are attracted to heritage objects and seek authenticity. In fact, when you see people wearing < Barbour > in stores or on street corners, many of them wear < Paraboot > on their feet. The reverse is also true, and among the customers who come to our trunk shows of < Paraboot >, we also see a scattering of them wearing < Barbour >. In other words, they genuinely go well together."

Incorporating each other's signature material into each symbolic masterpiece

“Up until now, we have requested Special order from both brands individually, but this collaboration between three parties is unprecedented in the world. It took about two years from the concept to completion, but we were finally able to complete it. As the producer, we have gathered and refined the know-how of each brand and customized each signature item to create a masterpiece that we are proud of.''

The < Barbour > is based on our most popular Bidail SL. We combined its iconic gusseted flap pockets with Paraboot 's signature squirrel leather. Since many < Barbour > lovers wear it with the collar up, we also used the same leather for the throat latch to accentuate the look. The leather is a type of so-called oiled calf leather with a fine texture and low oil content, but since it is originally a material used for shoes, it is water-repellent and repels rain without compromising the original function of waxed jackets. In addition, the pith name of < Paraboot > on the side of the pockets appeals to a special feeling, even if it is casual.

"Paraboot, on the other hand, is based on its sibling model Mirabeau, which retains the same shape and design as the brand's iconic Tyrolean shoes, Michael, but with fabric switched along the collar. Only two seasons. There are many fans who are still looking for this phantom pair, which was discontinued in 2007.We have reprinted this for this occasion, and changed the opening to Barbour 's traditional waxed cotton. Also, the shoelace hole has been changed to Adds gold-colored eyelets that resonate with the metal parts of the jacket.

``Both of them look great individually, but they are designed with matching in mind, so if you incorporate them as a set, you will create an even more complete coordination.Of course, they also go perfectly with the standard models. We also recommend matching it with your Barbour or Paraboot.

I thought it would be an interesting challenge, and at the same time, it would be a great piece.

``When I first heard the offer, I was honestly surprised. Barbour has worked with a variety of brands so far, but I thought, ``Wow!'' Paraboot? Shoes!?” (laughs) We are not a factory that only produces products upon request, so we do not collaborate with partners unless we have mutual respect. We felt a sense of sympathy as we are two brands that have continued to make robust products. It was a valuable opportunity for us, and it was a challenging and interesting experience.''

Take a look at our leather pockets made with our proud sewing techniques.

``Although this is our first attempt, we cannot afford to compromise on the quality of Barbour as long as it is delivered to our customers. We also took pride in this attempt. What we struggled with was the thickness of the leather. We used Paraboot 's squirrel leather for the pockets and other parts of our shoes, but the leather we use for shoes is too thick to sew with the sewing machines we use for clothing. Therefore, we collaborated with Paraboot to develop the material. After making adjustments and making many prototypes, we finally arrived at the appropriate thinness. The leather gusset and the smooth curved stitching were a highlight of the brand's skill.''

It seemed innovative, but the finish is natural. Honestly, this compatibility is better than I expected.

“I think International Gallery BEAMS is a really strong team, with a wealth of imagination, foresight, and a passion beyond imagination. However, we always get tearful because we receive so many difficult orders that push the limits of what is possible and what is impossible. However, we have no doubt that it will be a great product, so we are putting our prestige into it as we bring it to life (lol). This idea seemed novel at first, but the finished product turned out to be extremely natural. .While incorporating Barbour 's signature fabrics and parts, I am satisfied with how well they go together."

Tough and water-repellent wax material is also functional for shoes.

``Shoes are subjected to a lot of abuse as they are subjected to stress every time they walk, are repeatedly bent, and are exposed to sand, dust, and rain.As a result, due to issues such as durability and deterioration over time, it would be difficult to repurpose clothing materials. However, Barbour 's waxed cotton is tough and repels rain, making it the perfect material for shoes.``Mirabeau'', which has already been discontinued and was specially reprinted for this occasion, is ``Michael''. This model uses fabric for the collar. The fabric is softer than leather, so it blends in well, which makes sense.Coupled with the metal eyelets, it creates a masculine pair that goes well with the jacket.
