The joy of playing! A genuine mini shamisen from a Tokyo master
This is a BEAMS JAPAN Special order of the "Kojami Chinton," a model that is about two-thirds the size of a full-scale shamisen, born from shamisen master Kikuoka's desire that "everyone should be able to enjoy the sound of the shamisen."
While the design is lightweight and easy to carry, the acoustic membrane is made of tear-resistant and water-resistant Yupo paper. We've selected a material that's both durable and optimal for producing sound. Numbers on the side of the neck indicate where to press, allowing even beginners to play songs with minimal practice time.
■ Special order points
- The wood used is Hita cedar from Oita Prefecture, which is a first for Shamisenshi Kikuoka.
- The acoustic membrane and the part where the thread is wound (Tenjin) feature the BEAMS JAPAN logo, and the Tenjin has been carefully laser engraved for a special design.
■Accessories

■Craftsmanship
The maker, Kimiaki Kono, is a skilled craftsman who holds the titles of Katsushika Ward Traditional Craftsman and Tokyo Meister. Shamisen player Kikuoka
Located in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, this is the workshop of traditional craftsman and Tokyo Meister Kono Kimiaki, who makes shamisen. He personally handles most of the processes that are typically divided up among different people, and is extremely particular about the skin covering, which affects the tone of the instrument. While preserving tradition, he is also known for his innovative approach, incorporating new materials (such as Yupo paper). In addition to making and repairing shamisen, he is also committed to spreading opportunities for people to take part in shamisen culture through DIY kits and other means.
Japan is proud of its traditions, standards, and subcultures. Products with technology and design capabilities, culture such as art and music, Japanese food and specialty products, and fashion that utilizes Japanese sensibilities. All these things, things, and people are all in one place. If there were such a place, Japan would be more fun, and the world would definitely be more connected. BEAMS, which has progressed as a culture shop, has created a base to look at Japan, unite the power of people, and further shine a light on its value.
