The Seto Maneki-neko by Chugai Touen features a slender figure resembling a real cat. It was created in the latter half of 1897, applying the European plaster mold technique (Seto Novelty Manufacturing) used for dolls for overseas CHUGAI TOEN. Painted using Seto's traditional blue and white porcelain technique, it's hard to choose between the attractive mackerel tabby, calico, and spotted cats. Generally, the right hand is said to invite "money" and the left hand "many people."

Tabby: Tabby cats have white fur on their paws, making them look as if they are wearing socks, giving them an air of elegance and making them popular with women.

Mike: As can be seen in the many ukiyo-e prints of Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Mike cats have long been a classic beckoning cat that has soothed the hearts of Japanese people.

Spotted: This beckoning cat is commonly called "Hachiware" because the color of its head resembles the shape of an eight. This wide-opening figure eight is considered to be a very auspicious cat.
