Originally designed as workwear for fishermen and sailors, the Basque shirt was later adopted as the uniform of the French Navy. The design is inspired by the densely knit, windproof, heavyweight jersey fabric and the striped pattern, which ensures excellent visibility at sea. The boat neck, which was previously difficult to style, has been replaced with a half-zip polo shirt-style collar, making this a more modern and versatile piece.
