Everything Is Recorded, a collaboration project by Richard Russell, head of the prestigious XL Recordings and producer of albums by Damon Albern, Bobby Womack, Gil Scott-Heron, and others, has released his third studio album. Featuring a star-studded lineup including familiar names like Sampha and Kamashi Washington, as well as Jah Wobble and Jack Penate, this album is an interesting attempt to digitize folk music like 80s reggae, and overlaps it with the theme of loss and grief of his own friends, family, and colleagues. Unpredictable developments through cut-and-paste and sampling are exquisitely intertwined with gentle songs that focus on melody rather than rhythm, which was prominent in his previous works.
