A legendary Japanese punk band that's not easy to understand
Friction is an essential band in Japanese punk/rock history. Their only studio album, which still enjoys cult popularity, is being reissued!
This album, also known for being produced by Ryuichi Sakamoto, is a strong representation of no wave, a sound that was heavily influenced by members Reck and Chico Hige when they moved to New York.
The sharp guitar and cool vocals are contrasted with the intense yet light drums and bass that are reminiscent of dub, giving a sense of Sakamoto's tastes at the time while also exuding a strong sense of originality.
