Makaya McCraven is a drummer, composer, and producer who represents modern jazz, having worked on various albums on International Anthem and reconstructed albums of Blue Note works.
A compilation of four EPs of his live recordings has been released by XL Recordings, International Anthem, and Nonesuch.
Featuring leading figures in the genre, including Theon Cross, Ben LaMar Gay, Joel Ross, Jeremiah Chiu, and Jeff Parker, the album offers a re-experience of the overwhelming originality and heated atmosphere of improvisation, from the twisted rhythms and tribal influences of J Dilla's time, to experimental expressions using modular synths and looped samples, to ensembles with the sweet tones of vibraphone and guitar.
What's more, he edits the sound sources himself, which takes his creations one step further.
