This original print was produced to commemorate photographer Atsushi Okada's receiving the JRA Equestrian Culture Award. The setting for Okada's award-winning book, "Epitaph: The Light Trace of Yururi, the Phantom Island" (Impress), is the uninhabited island of Yururi, which floats off the coast of the Nemuro Peninsula, the easternmost point of the Japanese mainland. As it is designated as a national wildlife sanctuary, it is prohibited to land on the island, but the descendants of horses brought to the island in the past when people lived there have gone wild and have been living there quietly for over half a century.

Okada has been fascinated by the horses of Yururi Island and has been taking photos of them for over ten years. The horses on the island captured in his work are extremely tranquil and sublime. To commemorate the award, two new prints of his work will be on sale.
