A beautiful, lustrous color with a warm feel
Slipware is a type of ware that uses a muddy coating called "slip" to create patterns. Made from local clay from Tanba, homemade glazes, and fired in a climbing kiln, the gentle colors and texture of the glazes create elegant, delicate, and tasteful patterns that are sure to catch your eye.

Masaaki Shibata is a ceramic artist who creates slipware and other pottery in Tanba, Hyogo Prefecture. Studied under Kazutaka Ikuta in Tamba and Shigeo Suzuki in Iwata, and became independent in 1975 in Tamba Sasayama Town (now Sasayama City). We make pottery in a climbing kiln using local Tamba soil and homemade ash glaze.
