Product description
Released by Super Lab!
In July 1991, I spent eight days driving along narrow roads from Atlanta, Georgia, to Memphis, Tennessee, making occasional stops. When I arrived in a large city like Jackson, Birmingham, or Montgomery, I parked at a parking meter and walked around a few blocks. I had no intention of making a book, I just wanted to take pictures. Thirty years later, after the previous administration's recent display of extreme political incompetence, I looked back at this set of photographs and thought they subtly depicted three sides of the American South. Black people, white people, and the infrastructure of the time.
Cotton cultivation was a key industry that drove the economy from early on, and slaves expanded and guaranteed the profits.
I started my journey by taking a picture of the gas station seen from the car window in the first photo.

`` COTTO N'' is a photo book. However, the background includes political and social stories. I stopped by a small black church and used two images to emphasize the dominance of the religion and the strong women. Rather than hectares of cotton fields, I saw more evidence of it in small cardboard boxes than in hectares of cotton fields. The final photo of five boys sitting on a bench seems to symbolize the often segregated form of leisure that arose in this region. The camera is, so to speak, a litmus test for the unconscious. They use a test paper called monochrome film to detect the harshness of racial discrimination. ------------------
