A collection of works by illustrator OKATAOKA.
This work features a series of paintings in which artist selects his favorite songs, including those by Neil Young, Spitz, Yo La Tengo, Kacey Johansing, Khruangbin, Kings Of Convenience, and Yumi Arai, and expands on his imagination while listening to them, using blank 7-inch and 12-inch record jackets as canvases.

When I was just starting out as an illustrator, I had the opportunity to have an editor look at my portfolio. He asked me, "What kind of work do you want to do?" I answered, "I love music, so I'd like to draw things like album covers for musicians." He replied, "Well, you can't make a living as an illustrator by just doing the work you love."
Over a decade has passed since then, and I've been lucky enough to be able to make a living as an illustrator, but illustrating album covers remains one of my dream jobs.
The works included in this book are a series of works that I chose my favorite songs, expanded my imagination while listening to them, and painted on blank 7-inch and 12-inch record jackets. Since I did it on my own, no one corrected me, and it was a dreamlike and fun time.
While I was creating this piece, the word "fan art" suddenly came to mind. Fan art is a derivative work based on an existing work (mainly anime, manga, games, etc.), and "WALL OF SOUND" might be my definition of fan art.
I would be thrilled if these works were to reach my favorite musicians one day and I were even asked to create jacket designs, but first I would be happy if everyone who looks at them can enjoy letting their imaginations run wild, wondering "What kind of song is this?" or "What part of that song inspired this piece?"
