Roots of YONEZAWA
The history of Yonezawa's textile industry is said to have begun in the mid-Edo period, when shizuoka were brought in from Echigo and began weaving linen fabrics. As mulberry cultivation and sericulture flourished as a result of Uesugi Takayama's reforms to the feudal government, there was a shift from linen fabrics to linen/silk mixed weaving and silk fabrics, laying the foundation for one of Japan's leading textile producing regions.
The History of TEIJIN
Teijin's history begins in 1918 when it was established in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture as Japan's first rayon manufacturer.
Yonezawa production area is characterized by the use of yarn-dyed yarns such as polyester and silk, and many jacquard and high-density fabrics. In ancient times, Teijin developed rayon that was intended to be made into silk, and based on that experience, they later produced polyester that was easier to handle. Over time, polyester continues to evolve as the latest material, ``Solotex®''.
