Former professional wrestler and former member of the House of Councilors. Born February 20, 1943 in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. AB type. In 1960, he was scouted by Rikidozan in Brazil and made his professional wrestling debut. He founded Tokyo Pro Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling and participated in numerous matches. On June 26, 1976, at the Nippon Budokan, he fought a mixed martial arts match against Muhammad Ali, the unified world heavyweight professional boxing champion, after 15 three-minute rounds that ended in a draw. In 1989, he was elected as a member of the House of Councilors and became a hot topic as the first professional wrestler to become a member of the Diet. On August 2, 1990, Iraq under the Hussein regime suddenly invaded Kuwait (Gulf War). 41 Japanese people in Kuwait and others were taken to Iraq as de facto hostages. Inoki announced that a ``peace festival'' would be held in Iraq, and after this event, all Japanese residents and hostages were released. After retiring from active duty in 1998, he has been active in various fields, including appearing in movies and commercials. In 2010, he became the first Japanese person to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Retired from politics in 2019.
