"Godzilla vs. Hedorah"
Released in 1971
Director: Yoshimitsu Sakano
Special skills director: Akiyoshi Nakano
Screenplay: Kaoru Mabuchi/Yoshimitsu Sakano
Cast: Akira Yamauchi/Toshio Shibamoto/Hiroyuki Kawase/Yoshio Yoshida
The 11th film in the Godzilla series. The entire story is filled with a grotesque mood, and is a standout work in the series, as it skillfully incorporates the pollution issues that were causing a stir in Japan at the time. Hedora, a pollution monster born from a polluted port, grows and becomes gigantic while absorbing sludge flowing into the sea and smog from industrial areas. At that time, Godzilla appears out of nowhere and bravely confronts Hedorah, which continues to pollute the earth. This is a work full of artistry that is rare among monster movies.
