We will provide event support for the Netflix movie "Asakusa Kid", which will be exclusively distributed worldwide.
2021.12.05

To commemorate the release of the Netflix movie "Asakusa Kid", which will be exclusively distributed worldwide on Netflix from December 9th (Thursday), BEAMS will provide support through an event.
The release commemorative event "Asakusa Kid Festival" will be held in Asakusa, Tokyo, where this work is set, from December 7th (Tuesday). BEAMS has created an original "Asakusa Kid" T-shirt to enliven this event.
On the first day of the event, customers who meet the conditions will be selected by lottery to participate in the "Silk Screen Live Print" event, where printing will be done on the spot, and a T-shirt will be given away.

In addition, BEAMS designed the uniforms = happi coats worn by the staff at the Asakusa Kid Festival.
The design source was the happi coat that appears in the movie, and it was hand-dyed by a happi coat craftsman in Asakusa. Rickshaw drivers and venue staff will wear them to liven up the event.
Furthermore, events will be held not only at real venues but also online. "Virtual Asakusa" will appear inside the BEAMS Virtual Shop at the world's largest VR event "Virtual Market 2021" held on Metaverse, where you can experience a time slip to Asakusa in the Showa era. You can experience performing the tap dance that Yo Oizumi and Yuya Yagira beautifully performed in the movie "Asakusa Kid" with your own avatar, experience a virtual bar with a Showa style atmosphere, and win special gifts by spinning a giant Garapon raffle. This is a project that you can enjoy while walking around the city at twilight, including drawing lots.

Please enjoy the world of “Asakusa Kid” through BEAMS event.

About the Netflix movie “Asakusa Kid”
Asakusa, Tokyo in the 1960s. Takeshi (Yagira Yuya), who quit university and worked as an elevator boy at France Theater, begs Senzaburo Fukami (Hiroshi Oizumi), who has trained many popular comedians, to become his apprentice. Although Fukami is blunt, he has a unique worldview, and he is taught the essence of ``gegoto'', from his tap dancing and comedy skills to his behind-the-scenes work and the pride of a comedian such as ``Don't be laughed at, make them laugh.'' Following Fukami's teachings, ``If you're a comedian, always be silly,'' Takeshi refines his sense of humor while working with him as his disciple. He is joined by Chiharu (Mugi Kadowaki), a dancer who aspires to become a singer, and Fukami's wife Mari (Honami Suzuki). Under the watchful eye of the company, it has grown exponentially. However, due to the wave of television, the number of customers at France Theater decreased and business deteriorated. Meanwhile, Takeshi begins to think, ``I want to compete outside,'' and is invited by Kiyoshi (Nobuyuki Tsuchiya), a former senior at France-za, to form the manzai duo ``Two Beat.'' Despite fierce opposition, he left Fukami and gradually gained popularity. On the other hand, Fukami finds herself in a predicament amid the changing times. One day, the contrasting destinies of master and disciple intertwine again.
Written and directed by Gekidan Hitori, who adores Beat Takeshi, this is a youth film filled with laughter and tears, depicting the bond between master and student who put everything into laughter.
Exclusive worldwide distribution will start on Netflix from December 9th (Thursday).
