Osamu Sato Exhibition “All things must be equal”
2017.03.01

B GALLERY will be holding an exhibition by artist Osamu Sato for the first time. Osamu Sato has been actively presenting a wide variety of works such as photography, paintings, graphic design, animation, music, games, and apps. This exhibition, titled ``All things must be equal,'' features exposed film that has been scratched, burnt, and smudged, then scanned and photographed with a digital camera while traveling around the world. We will be exhibiting and selling new works created using the artist's unique technique of layering layers of material.
Works that are mixed to equalize the meaning of the original materials will be in sync with modern media, where information is flattened and homogenized by the Internet. In addition, we will release a photo book and CD containing the contents of this exhibition to coincide with the exhibition. Please look forward to Osamu Sato's latest exhibition.

Osamu Sato / Artist
Born in Kyoto in 1960, lives in Tokyo. Both my father and grandfather are photographers. He spent his childhood in an environment where the adults around him were only involved in the arts, and during his student days he studied design and photographic engineering at two universities. He spent eight years as a student, attending two schools, becoming a ronin, traveling to the United States, and repeating a grade. During that time, in addition to his photography and design work, he became interested in electronic music, and using synthesizers and tapes, he created a variety of experimental and environmental music, which he presented at live performances. Music from that time was also used as the background music and theme song for NHK programs. In addition, his graduation work was released as a cassette + silkscreen on the indie label of EP-4 Kaoru Sato, who was charismatic and popular at the time. Their activities were featured in the subculture magazines of the time, such as Takarajima. After graduating, he moved to Tokyo and joined Mos Advertising, an advertising production company. My direct superior was the late Masayuki Kawakatsu, who was a copywriter at the time. After that, he left the company after a year and a half and founded Outside Directors Company in 1989. At his first exhibition in 1991, he presented "Alphabetical Orgasm" using computer graphics, and received coverage from many domestic and international press. Since then, he has continued to publish works. He has also been involved in many other multimedia production projects, including his debut with Sony Music as the PC game work ``Eastern Mind,'' and the American title ``EASTERN MIND'' with Sony Music. Other music CDs such as ``EQUAL'' were released by Sony in Japan and Europe. After that, Asmik Ace released ``LSD/Dream Imulator'' for PlayStation, which is still famous as a cult classic. In recent years, he has reset everything, returned to his roots, and started focusing on creating works. At the same time, he resumed his musical activities due to an offer from the Berlin techno label SLEEPERS RECORDS.
