The first collaboration item with Metabolism architecture's representative work "Nakagin Capsule Tower Building" is now on sale!

< TOKYO CULTUART by BEAMS > will release its first collaboration item with the Nakagin Capsule Tower Building, which was demolished in Ginza, Tokyo, on October 12th (Wednesday).

The Nakagin Capsule Tower Building was designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa and completed in 1972. It consists of two towers, one 11 and 13 stories high, and has a unique shape and structure with a total of 140 capsule units attached around the core of each tower. Although it is a representative work of Metabolist architecture, demolition work began in April 2022 and was completed at the end of September, although it is much missed.

< TOKYO CULTUART by BEAMS > At the request of director Ogawa, the first collaboration was realized in order to pass on the charm of the Nakagin Capsule Tower Building to future generations. This is the first time that the Nakagin Capsule Tower Building has accepted a collaboration since the 2011 Metabolism Future City Exhibition, and a valuable collection of five designs has been completed.

The design generously incorporates scans of actual drawings of the Nakagin Capsule Tower Building, illustrations used in the blueprints, and photographs taken at the time of completion. Furthermore, we have created a logo inspired by "metabolism," which means metabolism.
