Weekly Playboy “Enthusiasm 50+1” exhibition held at B GALLERY

2017.12.29

"Weekly Playboy" is something that every man has read at least once. Starting with gravure signage, society, politics, culture, documentaries, gambling, adult entertainment... "Weekly News" has been packed with all the desires of the universe, and has survived by changing its editorial policy with the times. It was launched in October 2016. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary. In our 51st year, which we have designated as our anniversary year, we have been progressing with various projects and exploring new formats for the magazine.

This exhibition, titled ``Enthusiasm 50 + 1,'' will include past cover collages that strongly reflect the era, masterpiece gravures, and illustrations related to magazine pages, as well as images that use video with an eye to the future. Hands-on exhibits are also available. We are also planning a collaboration project with Weekly Bar, which opened in the same Shinjuku location in June last year, as well as product sales limited to the event. Additionally, the content of this exhibition will be updated weekly to match the format of the weekly magazine.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the 50-year history of “Weekly Play” and the future. Please look forward to it.

weekly playboy

Released every Monday. First published on October 28, 1966. The catchphrase at the time of the magazine's launch was ``Every man has the right to read! Read Playboy's international sensibilities!'' In the 1960s, Shintaro Ishihara and Yukio Mishima's serials and foreign pin-ups were the main attractions. Around 1970, purely domestic gravure produced by Kishin Shinoyama became popular. At the same time as determining the direction of Gravure Weekly Weekly, hard-hitting articles such as life advice from Renzaburo Shibata, Toko Kon, and Ken Kaiko were also supported. The past two times have sold over 1 million copies. In the late 70's, when ``Ore no Sora'' was serialized, and in the mid-80's, when Editor-in-Chief Katsuhiko Shimaji displayed his skill. Since the 1990s, his gravure photo books have been a successive hit, and he has also been active in reporting on wars and disasters.
