This tanuki was made to Special order by BEAMS JAPAN in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, known as the birthplace of Shigaraki ware. The orange color represents "prosperity for generations" and also means that it is lively and brings good luck. Orange is the color of the sun, and symbolizes vitality and energy, making it a suitable color for inviting good luck. The sake bottle it is holding features a picture of Mt. Fuji, which is also used in the BEAMS JAPAN logo. Why not use this tanuki as an interior decoration to brighten up your room as a lucky charm?

The name Tanuki is said to have the meaning of "surpassing others," and it is generally placed under the eaves of a store as a symbol of prosperous business. Each part also has a hidden meaning, called "Eight-fold Enjo."

Shigaraki ware
Pottery made in Shigaraki, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. It is one of the six oldest pottery production areas in Japan, one of the six oldest kilns that have been in operation since before the Kamakura period.
