Higonokami wrapped in Akita birch craft
This knife is made by Nagao Kanekoma Seisakusho, a long-established blacksmith in Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture, where traditional techniques are still passed down today.
The "Higonokami" knife, invented during the Meiji period, is a simple folding knife with a blade that can be stored in a sheath. The blade is forged using a forging technique called "Aogami Warikomi", and the high carbon blade maintains its sharpness. The handle and sheath are specially made with birch (Yamazakura bark) wrapped around them by a birch craftsman from Akita.
The name Higonokami comes from the fact that most of the customers at the time were in southern Kyushu, mainly Kumamoto, hence the name "Higonokami knife."
Products created by skilled craftsmen are functional items that can be used not only in everyday life but also in the outdoor fields.
[Caution when carrying knives]
Please be aware that the Sword and Firearms Control Law prohibits the carrying of knives with a blade length of 6cm or more.
