Paul Insect
Paul Insekt (born 1971) is a pioneering British artist whose practice spans street art, contemporary painting, sculpture, and installation. He emerged from the "Pictures on Walls" movement in the 1990s and quickly rose to prominence as a central figure in London's street art scene. He is known for his graphic, masked portraits that explore the duality of human identity. His collaborations transcend disciplines and borders, including projects with Banksy, American street artist Bast, and musician DJ Shadow, for whom he has also created album art and stage visuals. In 2010, he created a giant rainbow sculpture for Glastonbury Festival, an iconic work for its playful, public scale. In 2023, Insekt's puppets, made from recycled materials, were exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery's "Beyond the Streets ondo" exhibition, as part of the immersive installation "Larger Than Life." Through solo exhibitions in New York, London, and Paris, his unique style, which combines the absurdity of Dadaism, the energy of Pop Art, and a DIY aesthetic derived from the streets, has solidified his influence in contemporary art around the world.
