This book is filled with fantastical snow-covered landscapes captured by photographer Tomoki Hirokawa.
■Artist Statement
I first encountered the sight of frost-covered trees in the winter of 2012, when I was on a reporting assignment at Mt. Moriyoshi in the Ani region of Akita. I remember that a cold wave had hit the Tohoku region that day, and the temperature near the summit was -20°C, which was a harsh condition. The faintly emerging figure, amid poor visibility due to thick fog and snowfall, looked like a white creature absorbing the fog and snow and growing, and I felt a sign that it might start moving at any moment. I was fascinated by the deep blue frost-covered trees in the snowstorm. Since then, I have been heading to Zao, Mt. Hakkoda, and Mt. Moriyoshi on cold waves and stormy days to drift through the fantastical forests and capture the never-ending changes in nature.
