With the theme of "bridging design and craft," fennica, which introduces quality products from around the world, will hold its popular annual event "OKINAWAN MARKET" at "fennica STUDIO" on the 5th floor of "BEAMS JAPAN" in Shinjuku. Masu.

“Okinawan” is a coined word that means “Okinawa.” We offer a wide range of products, including traditional Okinawan pottery called "Yachimun," as well as miscellaneous goods such as bracken baskets, bingata works, pandanus hats, and food. We have also prepared Special order items from fennica for this event. Please take this opportunity to enjoy Okinawan crafts.

Yomitanyama ware north kiln/Yoneji Matsuda

Born in Yomitan Village, Okinawa Prefecture in 1954, began making pottery at Ishimine Kiln in Shuri, Naha City in 1974, and started working at Omine Studio in 1979. In 1990, he opened 13 Kitagama studios. Selected for the Japan Folk Crafts Museum Exhibition in 1995. Since then, he has won numerous awards and has actively held solo exhibitions. In 2013, a solo exhibition was held at St. Ives Ceramics gallery in the UK. Yomitan Yamayaki Kitagama/Koji Matsuda

Born in Yomitan Village, Okinawa Prefecture in 1954, began making pottery at Ishimine Kiln in Shuri, Naha City in 1974, and started working at Omine Studio in 1980. Shigeo Gama /Shiro Uezu

Born in 1973. After graduating from Okinawa Prefectural University of Art, he trained in Karatsu for about two years. In 1980, his father, Mr. Shigeo Uezu, built Shigeo Gama after training at the Tsuboya-yaki Nio kiln. Currently, Shiro Uezu has inherited the work and is actively engaged in production activities. Patterns with natural motifs such as line carving, inlays, and arabesques that make full use of traditional Okinawan techniques and patterns give a sense of Okinawan strength and generosity.

Ken Sugawara

After 5 years of training at Heian Ceramics Garden and 3 years of training at Yomitan Yamayaki Kitagama Matsuda Yoneji Studio in Yomitan Village, Okinawa Prefecture, he became independent in Ogimi Village, Okinawa Prefecture in 2013. We are particular about traditional Okinawan painting methods such as fish patterns and dots, and we are particular about the traditional method of firing in a climbing kiln.

Bingata Studio & Gallery Benikichi

Bingata was established during the Ryukyu Dynasty, incorporating various cultures from mainland Japan, Southeast Asia, and China. I think he wanted to look around the world as much as possible, be inspired by it, and create something good. Okinawa's amazingly diverse and rich nature is all around me, and the Internet allows me to learn about arts, crafts, beautiful things, and interesting things from all over the world.
