“BEAMS CULTUART”, a project that disseminates art and culture, will hold Ryu Ika’s solo exhibition at “KG+ 2023”

2023.04.13

BEAMS CULTUART BEAMS CULTUART a project that promotes art and culture at BEAMS, will participate for the first time in the satellite event "KG+ 2023" of "KYOTOGRAPHIE Kyoto International Photo Festival 2023".

This time, photographer Ryu Ika's solo exhibition "Ryu Ika The Circular Ruins: MOM LAND" will be held at "Shinpukan SPOT" in Kyoto from April 14th (Friday) to April 17th (Monday), 2023. It will be held for a total of 9 days from May 10th (Wednesday) to May 14th (Sunday).

`` BEAMS CULTUART'' is in sympathy with ``KG+'', which aims to discover and support up-and-coming photographers and curators, and has shown remarkable success with photo installations created with strong contrast and excessive noise. We spotlighted young photographer Ryu Ika. We chose "Shinpukan SPOT" where all kinds of people, from local residents to tourists, gather as a place for expression, and will present Ryu Ika's worldview in an installation format that allows you to experience it firsthand.
In addition, those who follow the official Instagram account of "BEAMS CULTUART" (@beams_cultuart) at the exhibition venue during the exhibition period will receive a novelty postcard of Ryu Ika's work with the theme of "botai" and "BEAMS CULTUART” original sticker will be presented.

Please come to this special exhibition where you can see Ryu Ika's works up close.

*Distribution of postcards and stickers will end as soon as they run out.
*Novelty details are subject to change without notice. note that.
*For the latest information on the exhibition, please check the official "BEAMS CULTUART" Instagram (@beams_cultuart) or official Twitter (@BeamsCultuart).

Ryu Ika The Circular Ruins: MOM LAND

In this exhibition, Ryu Ika will present new works on the theme of ``botai'', which he has been working on continuously. Ryu Ika was forced to give up on returning to Inner Mongolia due to the coronavirus, so he searched for videos and images of his hometown on the internet, growing his desire for it.
Although he fulfilled his long-awaited return to his hometown earlier this year, he says he was shocked to find that the reality was completely different from the hometown he had imagined in Japan. The photographs on display here are the imaginative world that Ryu Ika seeks, created by repeatedly digitally processing and layering countless layers after taking them on a trip to Inner Mongolia. For her, this is one of those stories that stands out more powerfully and realistically than reality.

Comments as BEAMS CULTUART

After arriving in Japan, Ryu Ika began taking photographs as a tool to connect with others, even though it was difficult to communicate in Japanese. The interest in others that she cultivated through this act becomes a kind of fantasy that shows her pure feelings and contradictions in reality, and by cutting out the surface layer and putting it into a photograph, it gives off a strong individuality. I am.
"BEAMS CULTUART" is pleased to be able to introduce Ryu Ika's representative series "Botai" at "KG+ 2023", which will be our first participation. Please look forward to it.
