BEAMS The book "OUTDOOR EXPED ITION BOOK 99" is written by Shigeru Kaneko, chief buyer of BEAMS PLUS (BEAMS PLUS), which has been attracting worldwide attention for his deep knowledge and expertise in vintage clothing making. The event "EXPED ITION CLUB PORTLAND" will be held on April 8 (Wed.) and 9 (Thu.), 2026, in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A., as part of the Functional Fabric Fair Spring 2026, a two-day festival of functional fabrics. This project originated from Shigeru Kaneko's book, "OUTDOOR EXPED ITION BOOK 99," published as the ninth installment in the "I AM BEAMS" series, which condenses the individual charms of BEAMS staff members into a single volume. The book introduces 99 carefully selected topics, including an extremely rare archive of classic outdoor gear that serves as the source of Kaneko's ideas. Launched in Harajuku in May 2025, the project aims to create a "CLUB" where fans can share the timeless appeal of classic outdoor gear and interact with each other, and has since expanded to London, New York, and Osaka.

This time, the event will be held in Portland and will feature the project's first-ever exhibition dedicated specifically to "mountain parkas." From Kaneko's vast collection, which he has amassed over many years, rare items of historical value have been carefully selected.

Furthermore, we will be offering a rare opportunity to see and handle valuable catalogs from outdoor brands that are normally kept under strict security, specially exhibited from the Outdoor Recreation Archive, renowned as the "world's finest collection of outdoor materials" housed at the University of Utah Library.

Born in 1984, he graduated from the stylist department of Bunka Fashion College and worked part-time at BEAMS Harajuku before joining the company in 2008. He was appointed buyer for BEAMS PLUS in 2015. He has a deep knowledge of second-hand clothing and is skilled in creating and buying items that reconstruct vintage items. His collection of outdoor items is particularly well-known in the industry. He is also well-known for his unique styling skills that combine vintage items.
