2026.06.19

From June 26th (Fri) to July 5th (Sun), 2026, "BEAMS CULTUART Takanawa" will be exhibiting the works of manga artist Reiji Fukichi, and selling collaborative items to commemorate the exhibition.

Fukichi Reiji Solo Exhibition "In Search of the Lost Room"

Even though we believe we are living in the present, our lives are actually shaped by our memories.
This exhibition constructs the exhibition space based on "rooms" that remain in the artist's memory, such as the room where he played as a child, a hotel room where he stayed with his mother, his apartment during his student days, and the room in Cuba where he once did a homestay.
Memories are not something that are lost forever; rather, fragments like smells, light, and textures unexpectedly resurface in the present. The exhibition title, "In Search of Lost Rooms," embodies this attempt to retraceive such past spaces.
The venue expresses the concept of "a room as a space where play is born" through merchandise, paintings, and three-dimensional works. From the perspective of an artist with a background as a manga artist, a sense of narrative is woven into each piece.
The aim was to create a space that is both private and open, one that connects with the viewer's own memories.

To coincide with this exhibition, T-shirts and glasses featuring illustrations specially drawn by Reiji Fukichi for TOKYO CULTUART by BEAMS have been produced. Furthermore, a limited edition of 20 T-shirts (in 20 colors) created in collaboration with tie-dye artist YUKI's brand DYE will be available for purchase.

I believe people are free to live their lives however they want. However, I don't like living in a way that makes light of fundamental human issues like falling in love, death, or loneliness. As long as a person seriously confronts those things, I think any way of life is fine.
From a script by Taichi Yamada (I forget which drama it was from), these are words that recently moved me.
