Glass artist Baku Takahashi's solo exhibition "MENTAL PICTURES" held

2018.02.01

A solo exhibition will be held to display and sell the works of Baku Takahashi, a glass artist based in Fukuoka. Glass works made using the air-blown technique give a soft and airy impression, as if they were living things, and fascinate people. Also on display are items from the glassware brand TOUMEI, which he co-founded with Tomoko Wada in 2016. Please take this opportunity to experience the charm of glass works.

Glass is a material that is closely connected to people's lives and has a wide variety of appeals. I work with glass every day as a material for my works, but occasionally it shows expressions and phenomena that I had never known before. I create my works while valuing what I discovered at that time. Also, before working with glass, I draw on paper and think about various shapes. When I draw repeatedly, I sometimes come up with shapes that I couldn't imagine before. Even though it is a shape that I could not have imagined, it must have been formed based on the images I collected every day, such as pictures I saw someday, natural objects, things made by others, etc. This work was created from an image that existed within me, and I believe that it is a scene that is hidden somewhere in people's memories. − Baku Takahashi
