Introducing Tottori's handicrafts ``T OTTO RI put a bird on it - A little bit of Tottori in your life -''

2018.03.14

With the theme of "bridging design and craft," fennica, which proposes a style that combines domestic and international handicrafts and new and old designs, is holding an event "T OTTO RI put a bird on" that focuses on Tottori and introduces folk crafts and local products. "It - A little bit of Tottori in your life" will be held.

Blessed with rich nature and the wisdom of its predecessors, Tottori still has many folk crafts. The prefecture also has the Tottori Folk Crafts Museum, which is active in promoting handcrafts. This event focuses on the handicrafts of Tottori's craftsmen, with a total of approximately 250 items ranging from ceramics such as Inshu Nakai Kiln and Engoji Kiln, which are well known in fennica, to wooden toys and woven fabrics. We have collected folk crafts made by artisans in Tottori through the fennica filter. “Put a bird on it” means “it will be even better with this.” Please add some color to your daily life by adding items from Tottori.

Expanded items

Inshu Nakai Kiln

The kiln was opened as a private kiln in 1945, when the Mingei movement was in full swing. Under the guidance of Shoya Yoshida, the leader of the Tottori Folk Crafts Movement, they have been working on creating new folk crafts, and Akira Sakamoto is currently the third generation.

Engoji Kiln

Ceramist Kiyoshi Yamashita opened the kiln in 1979. Created pottery together with Hiroyo Yamashita, whose teacher was Koji Matsuda of Yomitanyama Yaki Kitagama in Okinawa.

Yamane kiln

The kiln was opened by Koji Ishihara, who trained at Iwai-gama. We offer simple white hanging cups and slip vessels that give off a primitive yet powerful feel.

Ushinotoyaki

A traditional pottery that has been making everyday utensils for common people since the late Edo period. This time, we will focus on typical dyed items.

Fukumitsu ware

Fukumitsuyaki has a workshop in Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture. It is characterized by a modern design with decorations.

Kobo Konoka

We also produce household goods and children's toys. We sell products such as apple lids and cute human-shaped wooden toys ``Humuhum'' that give a sense of the unique world view of women.

Nobuo craft store

Shino Crafts Shop was founded in 1945. The wooden figurines in the shape of zodiac signs are handmade local toys made from cedar and cypress found in the prefecture, with modern and cute decorations.

Tottori folk craft woodwork

Telescopic wooden lighting designed by Shoya Yoshida, leader of the Tottori Folk Crafts Movement. We have designed various items used in modern life based on traditional techniques.
