話は聞くけれど、難しい専門用語が飛び交い、少しとっつきにくいNFT。でも、これだけ噂されるとちょっと興味が出てきたり。それは、ぼくたちBEAMSも一緒です。学び、議論を交わし、イベントを開催したりと、わくわくしながら少しずつ距離を縮めているところ。少し先の未来を見据え、NFTとの接し方を探してみよう。
NFT is a term we often hear, but its complex terminology can make it feel somewhat inaccessible. However, as you hear more about it, your interest starts to grow. At BEAMS, we're no exception. We're enthusiastic about learning, discussing, hosting events, and gradually bridging the gap between us and NFTs. Let's peer a bit further into the future and discover ways to engage with NFTs.
NFT、知ってる？
まず最初に、NFTとは何かを知っておかないと。英語の”Non-Fungible Token”の頭文字を取って生まれたこの言葉は、日本語で簡単に言えば、発行者が本物と保証する鑑定書と保有証明書が付いた偽造不可能なデジタルデータのこと。
デジタルデータと聞くと、コピー＆ペーストで無限に増やせてしまうイメージがあるけど、ご安心を。誰がNFT化させて、そこから誰の手に渡ってきたか、という全ての取引が記録されているから、真贋判定や所有者の証明が容易にできるんです。
いま、そんなNFTに、さまざまな“手段”としての活用方法が生まれてきました。投機目的で利用する人もいれば、参加者数が限られたイベントのチケットや会員権として購入する人、応援するスポーツ選手の決定的瞬間の写真が欲しい人もいて、好きなミュージシャンの作品を購入する人もいます。
いろいろなNFTがあるなかでも、BEAMSが最初に注目したのはNFTアート。クリエイターが作品の発表・販売手段としてNFTを利用し、スポーツや音楽と同様に“好き”“応援したい”というファンの楽しみ方に新たなカルチャーの芽吹きを感じるから。まだとっつきにくい印象があるかもしれないけれど、二次流通の環境も整っているから、デジタル版のトレカみたいに考えてもらえば分かりやすいかも。
NFTによってはプロジェクト化することもあって、オンライン上にファンコミュニティができ、フィジカル／デジタルを問わず、特別な体験やアイテムが提供されることも。ファンが購入後も楽しめる、その仕組みもまた熱狂を生んでいる理由なんです。

そんな盛り上がりに魅了され、魅力的なアーティストを発掘したい！ NFTのことをもっと知ってもらいたい！ と、東京からまだ見ぬカルチャーを生み出すための実験的プロジェクト『BE AT TOKYO』が主催となってフィジカルイベントを開催しました。その名も『Hello my name is NFT』。
NFT初心者の人にも分かりやすく楽しんでもらえるように、あれこれコンテンツを用意したこのイベント。その中でもメインは、一般公募のなかから審査員が厳選したNFTアーティストたちの展示。
フィジカルな催しというだけあって、デジタル上の作品だけでなく、原画を展示したり、その場でドローイングしたり。はたまた靴に作品を落とし込む人もいて、出展者によって表現方法はさまざまでした。NFTはデジタルの世界のものだと思われているけど、こうやってリアルな場でも楽しめる可能性を秘めているんです。
『Hello my name is NFT』のコンペで審査員を務めたのは、BEAMS代表の設楽をはじめ、〈TOKYO CULTUART by BEAMS（トーキョー カルチャート by ビームス）〉の元ディレクター永井秀二さん、コレクタブルNFTコレクション『新星ギャルバース』で国内外から注目を集めるアーティストの草野絵美さん、そしてNFT愛好家が集まるイベント『NFT ART TOKYO』代表の工場長さん。
そんなアートやNFTに造詣の深い4人が選んだ「特別審査員賞」と、『BE AT TOKYO』の母体となるメインサポーターのBEAMSが選んだ「BEAMS HEART賞」の受賞者を一部ご紹介します！
No.1_bonsai（BEAMS HEART賞）
「初めてフィジカルイベントに参加した」と話す、「BEAMS HEART賞」を受賞したbonsaiさん。現在、『Bonsaiboyz』と『a girl against the x』という、二つのコレクションをメインに活動しています。
NFTは、3Dツールを使い始めた2022年の春に、そのまま作品発表の場として自然な流れで始めたのだとか。最初は実験感覚だったとのことですが、NFTの魅力のひとつとして、「アートの流通革命」と教えてくれました。
「フィジカルのアート作品を購入することもあるのですが、それに比べてすごく敷居が低いんです。また、SNSも含めて、つくり手と買い手との間にいい意味で共犯関係ができ上がるというか。これ面白いと思うんだよね、かっこいいと思うんだよね、みたいな価値観の共有ができる点はとてもいいなと思っています」
No.2_TICTAC（BEAMS HEART賞）
同じく「BEAMS HEART賞」受賞者のTICTACさんが、NFT作品を販売し始めたのは2022年6月。それまで趣味でインスタグラムにイラストを投稿していたところ、海外から仕事の依頼が少しづつ届くようになり、「絵を販売するのもありかも？」と思ったのがきっかけだそう。
フィギュアの素体をモチーフにした『THE HUMAN ESSENTIAL SERIES』をメインに制作を行っているTICTACさんには、実はこの作品を通じたとんでもない目標があるみたいです。
「実は、この素体NFTを購入してくれた方には、同じタッチで購入者のキャラクターを制作して、それをNFTとしてお譲りする、ということをしています。そうやって、地球上の80億人を『THE HUMAN ESSENTIAL SERIES』でNFT化するのが夢なんです」
No.3_Petsuko（特別審査員賞）
「もともとデジタルでの作品制作が多かったものの、最初にNFTを知ったのは審査員の草野さんの妹さんがやっているPodcast番組『Off Topic』だった」と言うPetsukoさん。
作風を変化させながらあらゆる表現の魅力を模索する中で、まだ見ぬ景色を描いた惑星シリーズ『I haven't seen the planet yet』で草野絵美さんの「特別審査員賞」を受賞しました。そんなPetsukoさんはNFTの魅力をこう語ります。
「推しクリエイターに直接“好き”をぶつけられるのがとても楽しいです。あと、はじめてみて分かった魅力ですが、とにかく新しくて価値のあるつながりがたくさん生まれるのがNFTカルチャーなんです。それは『Hello my name is NFT』も同じで。普段の活動場所はネット上ですが、それがリアル世界に移動した時に、作品に対しても人に対してもより解像度の高い感情を抱ける体験でした」
BEAMS CULTUART X MetaSamurai
そしてイベントだけにとどまらず、BEAMSのアートとカルチャーを推進する新プロジェクト〈BEAMS CULTUART〉ではNFTでもコラボしちゃいました！
タッグを組んだのは、web3クリエイティブスタジオ『1BLOCK』が展開するNFTプロジェクト『MetaSamurai』。忠犬ハチ公をモチーフにした3DのNFTに、BEAMSのエッセンスのひとつ“アメカジ”のウェアを取り入れて、ファッションとデジタルが融合したデザインに仕上げました。
222点限定で発行したところ、ありがたいことに即完売を記録。さらに、『BEAMS HOLIDAY 2022』キャンペーンに合わせて、BEAMSの店頭で無料配布しているグリーティングカードをARアプリ『METADRIP』で撮影した画像をTwitterに投稿してもらうと、コラボNFTが抽選で当たるという企画も実施。ちなみに、このNFTを保有している方には、『MetaSamurai』からコラボ記念のトートバッグをプレゼントするなど、デジタルとフィジカルがクロスオーバーした試みになりました。
今回は、BEAMSのNFTに関わる取り組みの中でも、デジタルクリエイターたちの作品発表支援や、コラボレーションプロジェクトを紹介しました。これからもクリエイターとの共創や、NFTを活用したファンコミュニティなど色々な可能性を模索し、新しいことに挑戦して、皆にワクワクを届けていくので、ご期待ください！
Are You Familiar with NFTs?
To start, we must understand the concept of NFTs. NFT stands for “Non-Fungible Token” in English. In simpler terms, it refers to digital data that can’t be duplicated and comes with certificates of authenticity and ownership to verify the issuer’s credibility.
Though the notion of “digital data” might imply easy replication through copying and pasting, there’s no need to worry. Every transaction is meticulously recorded, including the NFT’s creator and its subsequent transfers. This meticulous documentation ensures authenticity and ownership verification.
In today’s landscape, NFTs serve diverse purposes. Some individuals use them for speculative ventures, while others buy NFTs as exclusive event tickets or memberships. Some seek iconic snapshots of their favorite athletes’ defining moments, and others acquire artwork crafted by beloved musicians.
Within the array of NFTs, BEAMS initially focused on NFT art. We perceive NFTs as an emerging cultural phenomenon wherein creators employ NFTs to showcase and vend their creations, while enthusiasts engage with NFTs through “liking” and offering support, akin to their approach to sports and music. This might seem intricate, but the groundwork for secondary distribution is already in place, making it relatable as a digital equivalent of trading cards.
Certain NFTs also evolve into projects, fostering online fan communities and offering special experiences and items, irrespective of their digital or physical nature. This post-purchase engagement, ensuring enjoyment for fans, contributes to the prevailing enthusiasm.

Hello, my name is NFT
Driven by this excitement, we felt a compulsion to explore intriguing artists and elevate awareness of NFTs. Thus, “BE AT TOKYO,” an experimental initiative aimed at cultivating new culture in Tokyo, orchestrated a tangible event named “Hello, my name is NFT.”
This event provided an array of user-friendly content for NFT newcomers to savor. The central feature was an exhibition of NFT artists meticulously curated by judges from among the general public’s submissions.
Given that this was a physical event, it showcased not only digital creations but also original drawings. Some artists even crafted pieces on-site, and others integrated their art onto shoes. While NFTs primarily belong to the digital domain, they possess the potential to enrich real-world experiences.
The panel of judges for the “Greetings from NFT” competition included BEAMS CEO Yo Shitara, Shuji Nagai, former director of TOKYO CULTUART by BEAMS, Emi Kusano—an artist renowned in Japan and abroad for her collectible NFT collection “Shinsei Galverse”—and Kojocho, CEO of NFT ART TOKYO, an event uniting NFT enthusiasts.
We’re eager to introduce some winners of the “Special Prize,” handpicked by these four individuals who possess extensive art and NFT insights, alongside the “BEAMS HEART Prize” designated by BEAMS—the driving force and parent organization behind “BE AT TOKYO.”
No.1_bonsai (BEAMS HEART Award)
The recipient of the BEAMS HEART Award, bonsai, shared, “This marked my inaugural participation in a physical event.” Currently cultivating two primary collections, “Bonsaiboyz” and “a girl against the x,”
he entered the realm of NFTs upon embracing 3D tools in spring 2022. Initially an experiment, he realized the NFT’s allure rests in its role as a “revolution in art distribution.” Unlike physical artworks, NFTs are easily accessible. Further, through social networking and related avenues, a sense of shared camaraderie emerges between creators and buyers. This dynamic of sharing admiration and approval is truly remarkable.
No.2_TICTAC (BEAMS HEART Award)
TICTAC, another recipient of the “BEAMS HEART Award,” ventured into NFT art sales in June 2022. While initially posting illustrations on Instagram as a hobby, he eventually received international job offers, leading him to contemplate selling his artworks.
The core of TICTAC’s creations revolves around “THE HUMAN ESSENTIAL SERIES,” centered on human figure models. He envisions a unique aspiration for this series.
“I’ve been transforming buyers of this NFT figure body models into NFT characters bearing the same touch and give it to them. By doing so, I’d like to convert Earth’s eight billion inhabitants into NFTs within THE HUMAN ESSENTIAL SERIES.”
No.3_Petsuko (Special Prize)
“Although my creative journey has predominantly been digital, I was introduced to NFTs through the ‘Off Topic’ podcast, hosted by Kusano-san’s sister—a member of the judging panel,” reflected Petsuko.
Exploring varied artistic styles, she received Emi Kusano’s “Special Prize” for her series “I haven’t seen the planet yet,” portraying unseen landscapes. Petsuko underscores NFTs’ charm as follows.
“The ability to directly express ‘likes’ to favorite creators brings me immense joy. Moreover, NFT culture fosters countless novel and meaningful connections. This allure was evident even in ‘Hello, my name is NFT.’ My usual sphere of activity centers on the internet, yet transitioning to the physical realm provided heightened emotional resonance with both artworks and people.”
BEAMS CULTUART X MetaSamurai
BEAMS CULTUART, a fresh BEAMS initiative aimed at nurturing art and culture, proudly engaged with NFTs.
Collaborating with “MetaSamurai,” an NFT project by web3 creative studio “1BLOCK,” this endeavor merged a 3D NFT centered on Hachi the Faithful Dog with BEAMS’ quintessential “American casual” attire. The outcome was a fusion of fashion and digital innovation.
The limited edition collection of 222 pieces swiftly sold out. Concurrently with the “BEAMS HOLIDAY 2022” campaign, a draw was held where people could share images of free greeting cards distributed at BEAMS stores on Twitter, captured with the AR application “METADRIP.” Owners of this NFT received a commemorative collaboration tote bag from “MetaSamurai,” cementing an experiment that melds the digital and physical domains.
Within BEAMS’ broader NFT pursuits, we introduced mechanisms to aid digital creators in showcasing their work and fostered collaborative projects. Our exploration of collaborative possibilities with creators and fan communities utilizing NFTs continues, as we persistently seek fresh avenues to captivate and inspire.
