This Daruma doll is from SHIRAKAWA DARUMA SOUHONPO a long-established daruma doll manufacturer in Shirakawa City, Fukushima Prefecture, with a history of approximately 300 years and one of Japan's leading producers of Daruma dolls.
Daruma dolls have long been cherished by the Japanese as lucky charms. Shirakawa daruma dolls are popular as the auspicious "crane, turtle, pine, bamboo, and plum daruma," with the eyebrows representing a crane, the beard representing a turtle, the ear whiskers representing pine and plum blossoms, and the chin beard representing bamboo. When making a wish, first paint in the left eye of the daruma doll, and then paint in the right eye when the wish is fulfilled.
