Founder Mr. John Comfort was born in 1879 and established The Cathedral Knitting Company in 1908. The company began producing hand-framed knit ties and later changed its name to J. Comfort and Company Ltd. In the 1930s, the company developed hand-block printed Ancient Madder and regimental stripes, as well as Macclesfield fabrics.
