This stool won an honorable mention at the first Tendo Mokko Design Competition.
"Murai" is named after the maiden name of designer Reiko Tanabe.
The simple and beautiful design is made by combining three identical pieces of molded plywood without using any metal fittings.
We have paid particular attention to the details, such as the way the beautiful grain of the teak comes together towards the center.
The top surface is horizontal no matter which side is facing down, so it can be used stably and can be used as a chair or side table, or even stacked to create a shelf.

■ Design
Reiko Tanabe
Born in Tokyo in 1934. After graduating from Joshibi University of Art and Design in 1957, he worked at Fujimori Kenji Design Office and Matsuda Heita Architects. In 1961, his "Murai Stool" won an award at the first Tendo Mokko Furniture Design Competition, where judges included Isamu Kenmochi and Kenzo Tange. In 1967, the product was selected for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
