A breeding box inspired by the "reins" used to control draft horses.
This leather tray is from Somes Saddle, a saddlery manufacturer founded in Hokkaido in 1964. It uses thick cowhide leather, approximately 6mm thick, the same type used for the reins of Hokkaido's powerful draft horses. It neatly stores writing instruments, glasses, and other small items, keeping your often cluttered desk tidy. The thick stitching stands out against the substantial leather, giving it a sturdy and reliable finish befitting a saddlery brand. The inside is lined with soft faux suede to gently protect your precious belongings. This is an "interior piece that grows with you," becoming more familiar to your life and adding a touch of high-quality warmth the more you use it.
Special order points
We selected the most natural leather from Somes Saddle and stamped it with BEAMS JAPAN logo.
About the material
Originally, "tool leather" is made with durability as the top priority. Before the processing to make it look beautiful, the vegetable-tanned leather retains the blood vessels, wrinkles, and natural scars that are evidence of the animal's life. At Somes Saddle, we intentionally do not hide these features, except for those that would affect the quality, when cutting the leather. Each piece is a unique and exceptional item with its own distinct character.
About aging
While containing high-quality oils, the surface is intentionally left uncoated. As a result, it will stain when exposed to water, and its color will deepen dramatically with sunlight and friction. You can either carefully care for it to cultivate a rich amber color, or use it roughly without worrying about scratches. Enjoy the aging process, which directly reflects the personality of the user.
Ban'ei horse racing
This competition involves using "Banba," a type of draft horse that played an active role during the pioneering era of Hokkaido, to pull sleds, competing in power, speed, and endurance.
