■ Design
This print depicts Hatakeyama Shigetada, a warrior from the Kamakura period who was hailed as "the epitome of a Bando warrior." Based on the war chronicle "Genpei Seisui Ki," it portrays Shigetada carrying his beloved horse, Mikazuki, down a valley during the "Hiyodorigoe no Sakasakaotoshi" surprise attack at the Battle of Ichinotani. This scene symbolizes Shigetada's combination of bravery and compassion, and the print is a powerful work that vividly depicts the figure, horse, armor, and horse tack. The inscription was written by Shikata Magao (Katsube Magao), a leading kyoka poet of the Edo period. At the time, the Shikata group, which included kyoka poets, produced a series called "Uma Zukushi" (Horse Collection) together with Hokusai.
This is a set of paintings depicting horse-related motifs, made in honor of the fact that 1822 was the Year of the Horse. Because it also bears the signature "Fusenkyo Iitsu," which Hokusai used around the same time, this particular painting is believed to be one of the works in the "Uma Zukushi" series.

■Coordination
We recommend pairing it with a short-sleeved T-shirt underneath and wearing it as a casual jacket with the front buttons open. It goes well with jeans, chinos, and even dresses.
