Product description
A culinary journey through art, film, literature, and recipes.
This book, written in collaboration with culinary experts from the gourmet guide "The Gourmand," delves deeply into the literary, linguistic, historical, and gastronomic heritage of the lemon.

This cheerful yellow fruit is a star of Renaissance gardens, shaped the Medici dynasty, possessed the power to prevent scurvy, played a role in the formation of the Mafia, and since 600 AD, its juice has been used as invisible ink for writing secret messages.

"The Gourmand" traces the surprisingly complex lineage of the lemon, exploring its role as a literary device in writers such as Joan Didion, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tom Wolfe, and James Joyce, and examining the unique role of the lemon as a symbol of the American Dream through the lens of lemonade stands.

Lemons, a favorite subject of art history masters, captivated viewers in Old Masters' still lifes and inspired the creative drive of modern pioneers such as Picasso, Matisse, and Warhol.
Furthermore, it has appeared at the forefront of design, such as Philippe Starck's iconic Juicy Salif and the understated yet innovative Jiff Lemon.
Its influence extended to decorative arts, adding color to everything from Arts and Crafts wallpaper to mythical ceramics.
Even the famous Bloomsbury Group incorporated lemons into their literary love stories.
These anecdotes, primarily about citrus fruits, are accompanied by a preface by chef and renowned food writer Simon Hopkinson, and an introduction by art critic and author Jennifer Higgy.

Featuring over 60 lemon-flavored recipes from around the world, including perfect chicken dishes, luxurious sauces, classic cocktails, and blissful desserts.
The photograph is an original by Bobby Doherty.
