“New” value, TOMOKI KUROKAWA solo exhibition “candy gem” will be held at “B GALLERY”!

"B GALLERY" will be holding TOMOKI KUROKAWA 's solo exhibition "candy gem."

Born in Mie Prefecture in 1975, Kurokawa began working as an illustrator in the early 2000s, and has since spent more than 10 years as a painter.He is a rare artist who is always taking on bold challenges.

So far, “frontier” (FR2 GALLERY2, 2018), “routine” (FAITH, 2019), “LUMINE Meets Art AWARD 2019-2020” (LUMINE SHINJUKU, 2020), “another world” (CALM & PUNK GALLERY, 2022) , "boxset" (NADiff a/p/a/r/t, 2023), and the organization Kurokawa Planning Office runs "new works" (soil, 2021) as a project selected by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. He has been presenting his works in various forms through many exhibitions and projects, including the special exhibition ``Making Maps'' (soil, 2022).

For this solo exhibition, Kurokawa created a three-dimensional polyhedral painting that he himself devised, and a companion painting using metallic organic solvent paint.

The polyhedral 3D painting, which resembles the cut of a gemstone, can be viewed from all sides 360 degrees, and when unfolded, it can be viewed as a single painting.
In addition, since metallic organic solvent paints are closest to candy colors in terms of color, we use the common name ``Candy Gem'' as the series title to accurately describe them.

Regarding this solo exhibition, Kurokawa has the following to say:

“I came up with the idea for the polyhedral three-dimensional painting work when I was creating the shaped canvas work “Thousand Island Dressing” that I presented at “LUMINE Meets Art AWARD 2019-2020” (LUMINE SHINJUKU, 2020). No one else has made it. I think it should still be possible to create a deformed canvas.
Also, when it comes to colors, there must be ways to use them that can only be completed within one series, and that can only be used within that series.
I'm only interested in things that have "new" value that would be considered heretical by the widely recognized "existing" things. ”
