Jewelry brand Munqa will be hosting a pop-up shop on the 4th floor BEAMS JAPAN (Shinjuku)

Launched in 2010, this jewelry brand is designed by artist muu. Based on the concept of "NEWTIVE" (NEW + NATIVE), the brand's theme is a mix of influenced cultures and ethnic cultures. Munqa pursues a new expression of NATIVE through its own unique lens. All Munqa jewelry is crafted from sterling silver (925 silver). Each piece is unique, crafted and finished by skilled Japanese artisans. Like vintage Native American jewelry, the silver is melted and sculpted into sheet metal, resulting in a deliberately uneven surface. While much of the silver available on the market is mass-produced using cast molds, Munqa jewelry is primarily hand-cut by artisans, with each individual stamp hand-hammered. The "sujibori" (carving) that creates the lines is also done by hand, and all processes are carried out by a single craftsman.If you look closely, you will see that not all pieces have the same expression or shape, which is due to this production method.

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, she grew up influenced by the Shonan culture of her hometown. After graduating from art school, she worked as a designer for a toy company before going independent as an artist. Using a variety of materials she has collected herself, she creates three-dimensional and two-dimensional works using a variety of techniques, including painting, embroidery, dyeing, beadwork, and sewing, to give form to her daily "ideas." She is currently active in a wide range of fields, providing artwork and collaborating with others.
