Goto Marumasu
Kyushu is home to the Goto Islands, an island group floating in the sea west of Nagasaki. The technique of "hand-stretching" Goto udon is said to have been introduced from China during the time of the Japanese envoys to the Tang Dynasty, and has been passed down in households for over a thousand years. Its flavor is nurtured by the bounty of Goto's nature, including the "island wind" that is perfect for drying the noodles, the "natural salt" from the beautiful sea, and the high-quality "camellia oil" from the camellias that grow wild on the island. Goto Marumasu creates products in pursuit of the original flavor of this "Goto hand-stretched udon."
