“BEAMS EYE ON” City Guide

SHINJUKU

This is the only bowling alley in town.

Even now, as we enter a new era, we recommend nightlife spots in Shinjuku, where the image of the "city that never sleeps" remains strong. ``My hometown is Shinjuku, so I've been going bowling ever since I was a teenager, and I always stop by after drinking with the staff and have a great time.I want it to continue as a cultural heritage born from the Showa era. You can't talk about this city without knowing about the entertainment content that you can enjoy all night long.

SHIZUOKA

Shizuoka's soul food full of juicy meat.

A hamburger specialty store that is unique in the prefecture and continues to be loved by locals, saying, ``This is the soul food of Shizuoka citizens.'' 100% ground beef is grilled over high heat over Bincho charcoal, and the meat juices are sealed in on the iron plate. The staff will cut it right in front of you, and you can eat it piping hot. ``The sauce that goes well with rice is also delicious,'' says the chef, whose homemade onion sauce has a Japanese taste with a strong soy sauce flavor. Even women can enjoy it even though it's voluminous.

OSAKA/KITA

A dramatic long-established cafe.

``My favorite coffee shop that I use on a daily basis during my lunch break.Coffee and desserts seem to be popular, but they also have a wide selection of food such as pilaf and curry!'' says Yamazaki. The interior has a calm interior that gives the feeling that it has been quietly watching over the city and its people for 50 years. It's like being in a scene from a novel or a movie, and just being here makes you feel like you're in the middle of a painting, which is probably part of the charm of this cafe, which has a strong Showa-era atmosphere.

KOBE

Once you try this bread, you'll be hooked.

Explore famous restaurants in Nishinomiya, Yasumoto's hometown, which is consistently ranked among the top cities to live in. ``Namase Hutte'' is an extremely popular bakery that requires reservations, and says of its appeal, ``I think it will change the way you think about bread with its incredible deliciousness.''

HIROSHIMA

An artistic plant that can be placed as a picture.

Eguchi himself has a hobby of tinkering with the soil, and spends time with the various plants placed in his living room. He recommended Kusamura as a ``pioneer who elevated cacti to the level of art.'' Based on the concept of ``plants with nice faces'', the shop owner himself collects unique greenery from his travels throughout Japan. It suggests coordination with a device that brings out individual information. "Every combination of plant and pot is unique."

MATSUYAMA

A legendary cup that you want to drink at least once.

A cocktail specialty shop run by Mr. and Mrs. Tsuyuguchi, who are famous as Matsuyama legends (established over 60 years ago!!). A strong drink made by putting whiskey and ice in an 8-ounce tumbler and pouring in carbonated water is called the ``Showa Highball,'' and it has a taste that stands out from the ordinary ones. ``A highball is the standard here. You can enjoy an exquisite cup that brings out the flavor of the whiskey,'' says Nishimoto. Even today, many fans open the doors of Tsuyuguchi in search of the legendary taste.

FUKUOKA

Old furniture that you want to use carefully.

Iwakoshi has always loved second-hand clothes, which led to his interest in antique furniture. ``We have high-quality furniture that has been purchased in France and England. It seems that new items arrive every week, so the impression inside the store is different every time I go, and just like second-hand clothes, each item has its own unique character,'' says the store. I am enjoying my encounter with furniture. "I bought chairs here before, and they were all well-maintained, so I felt safe buying them."

NAGASAKI

A valuable bookstore where you can learn about the history of the city.

"Nagasaki's history is interesting." Tokunami recently became interested in history after being influenced by a history geek at work. ``I heard that Taishodo Shoten had many history books about Nagasaki, so I went there. It seems that many of the people who buy books are writers and university professors, including books related to the atomic bomb, Christianity, and history of foreign negotiations. There are a variety of books stacked up to the ceiling, including specialized books from around the world.Among them are rare literary books with autographs from famous literary figures!''

KUMA MOTO

Delicious meat and beautiful space.

``I've always thought that stores that were renovated from old houses were cool, and that they held lively events,'' Fujimoto said, adding that TERRACE always caught his attention every time he passed by. It's a "churrasco-style" restaurant where large pieces of meat are threaded onto iron skewers and grilled over charcoal. The grilled meat is brought to your seat on skewers and cut into pieces right in front of you. ``Dinner is all-you-can-eat, including all-you-can-eat meat and salad bar, so it's a good idea to go with a large group.''

In this edition of [TALK], we will be delivering a special talk between Yuji Iwai, editor of the “BEAMS EYE ON” city guide, and Futoshi Maeda, press representative for BEAMS.
Do people in Hiroshima really only eat okonomiyaki, or is Shizuoka really the same as tea? We asked both of them, who brilliantly overturned such stereotypes, to tell us about various stories. Please take a look.
