レコードには必ずジャケットが付いています。
ジャケ買いという言葉が生まれるほどレコードにとってジャケットは重要な要素の一つです。
ジャケットがカッコいいレコードは名盤が多い！というのが持論です。
そんな持論を裏付ける名盤を今回はご紹介します。
まずは一番のお気に入り、Herbie Hancock「Head Hunters」
ど真ん中に配置された謎のアフリカンマスクのようなグラフィックが最高ですね。サイケデリックな色彩と相まって「飾って絵になる一枚」といえる仕上がりです。
よく見ると目はスイッチ、口はメーターになっているんです。自身の祖先のルーツミュージックと、現代的なジャズの融合を試みた作品の内容を反映させたジャケットといえるでしょう。
（ちなみにVictor Moscosoという人によるもので、グレイトフルデッドのギタリスト、Jerry Garciaのアルバムのジャケットも担当していて、そちらもサイケな雰囲気が抜群です。)
続いてはハードハンズ、Ray Barretto「Acid」
Ray Barrettoのレコードはジャケットが抜群なものがたくさんあるのですが、
今回はこちらをご紹介します。
シンプルなデザインなのですが、色とBarrettoの表情が絶妙にマッチしてます。
このジャケットを担当したのはIzzy Sanabriaという人物で、Joe BataanやRalfi PaganなどのFania Recordsの看板アーティストたちのジャケットもデザインしてるようです。
Fania All Starsにはボーカルとしても登場しているようです。まさにFania Recordsのイメージを担った人物といえるでしょう。
3枚目はDavid Bowie 「STATION TO STATION」
こちらはSteve Schapiroという写真家が手掛けた一枚です。
公民権運動の重要な場面を切り取ったフォトグラファーとして有名なようです。
ジャズのアーティストを数多く映していたようで、Bill EvansやCannonball Adderley、Wes Montgomeryなど錚々たるメンツのジャケットを手掛けています。
Bowieが防音室に入るシーンの一枚だと思われるのですが、壁一面の消音材やモノクロで際立つ陰影が近未来的な雰囲気を放っています。
写真とは関係ないのですが、アルバムタイトルの色と配置も秀逸で、額に入れて飾っておきたい仕上がりです。

The sleeves of records are equally important as the contents of the disk.
Some would have experienced buying records only with the look instead of the music.
I will introduce three records that have artistic sleeves from our rack.
The first great jacket is my favorite album, "Head Hunters" by Herbie Hancock.
The graphic in the center reminds me of African Musk with psychedelic color.
Victor Moscoso produced the artwork. Moscoso also worked with Jerry Garcia from Grateful Dead.
Next is "Acid" by Ray Barretto.
Baretto's face and the color of the album are outstanding.
Izzy Sanabria designed this jacket. The designer worked with artists from Fania Records, Joe Bataan, and Ralfi Pagan.
Finally, "Station to Station" by David Bowie is another masterpiece.
Steve Schapiro, the American photographer, known for the picture of significant moment of the Civil Rights movement, took this picture on their sleeve.
He worked with jazz giatns such as Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderley and Wes Montgomery.
The title design and the picture muchs perfectly.
